- Schedule delay cost if the order fails

I still can't believe I didn't catch that one coming.
Even a drum set for beginners—the one I bought my son last year—taught me the same lesson. I bought a $150 kit. The cymbal stand collapsed within a month, tension rods stripped, and what was supposed to be a fun hobby turned into frustration. What I'd Tell Any Buyer
If you're buying insulation for a project, don't skip the verification step. Ask for the density certificate before the PO goes out. Ask for the third-party R-value test report, not the marketing sheet. I do not trust a data sheet I cannot verify. And get the tolerance commitment in writing.
Ask about production consistency, too. One batch is a sample, not a guarantee. If a vendor won't show you process control data, or won't commit to tolerances in the contract, walk away.
The cheapest insulation batt is the one that arrives, installs, performs, and gets out of your way. That tends to be a product with verified specs, complete technical support, and a manufacturer who treats certification as routine rather than as a favor. In our warehouse, that's been Knauf.
If I could go back to November 2023, I'd do the sample check. I'd push back harder when the team wanted to get the order out the door the same day. And I'd repeat this line, which now sits at the top of every spec I write: Price is what you pay. TCO is what the project actually costs.
